Annual Retiree BBQ – Tuesday, June 19, 2018

In celebration of Pride 2018, Unifor Local 1090 held its annual Pride flag raising ceremony this morning.

Special thanks to Adriaan Bakker from Pride Durham for attending, along with officers from Durham Regional Police Service for bringing the LGBTQ cruiser.
A special thanks to Local 1090’s own LGTB Committee member Andrew Wrightly for organizing the ceremony.

2018 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Rally – Building Bridges Through Diversity

Wednesday, March 21, 2018 marked the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination across North America. This year’s theme was to promote tolerance, inclusion, unity and diversity in the combat against racial discrimination.

Unifor is committed to working with all its members and locals to battle racial discrimination. On March 25, 2018, Unifor Locals 222 & 1090 gathered together at the Local 222 Union Hall in Oshawa to stand up for equality.

The event, organized by Local 1090 and 222 Aboriginal Workers of Colour (A.W.O.C.) Committees and Local 222 Human Rights Committee, featured guest speakers, international cuisine and music from a drumming group. Guest speakers told stories, shared their experiences and promoted ways for Canadians to join together and fight for equality.

International Women’s Day Breakfast

Unifor 1090 showed their solidarity with women and Unifor Local 222 on Sunday, March 4, 2018, as the Local 222 Women’s Committee presented their annual Women’s Day Breakfast at their union hall. The event included powerful speeches, a 50/50 raffle, and a delicious meal prepared and served by respectful male union members.

International Women’s Day is on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
